Significant Dog Bite Cases

FAILURE TO SECURE GERMAN SHEPHERD

The Plaintiff was an adult individual who was jogging along a city street. As she was jogging past a residential home, a German Shepherd left the premises thereby biting the Plaintiff in the right humeral area. As a result of the bite, the Plaintiff received 17 stitches in the right humeral area and underwent plastic surgery to repair the cosmetic disfigurement and scarring that occurred. The Plaintiff was sent to a plastic surgeon for consultation. The plastic surgeon outlined the treatment necessary to repair the cosmetic disfigurement. The Plaintiff incurred medical expenses as a result of the dog bite and also had loss of wages. The case was settled in favor of the Plaintiff.

DOG WITH KNOWN PROPENSITY TO BITE LEAVES PREMISES

The Plaintiff, an adult woman, was walking down a city street. As she was proceeding, a dog, with a known propensity to attack, left the yard and began chasing the Plaintiff. The Plaintiff, in an attempt to get away from the dog, fell causing injury and damages to her knee and leg. It was alleged that the property owner knew or should of known of the dog's propensity to attack. Discovery revealed that prior complaints had been filed against the property owner. The case proceeded to trial. After arbitration, an award was entered on behalf of the Plaintiff.

DOG WITH KNOWN PROPENSITY TO BITE INJURES MINOR

The Plaintiff, a minor, was playing ball in his neighbor's yard near a dog that was chained in the yard. While the Plaintiff was attempting to retrieve the ball which had rolled in the vicinity of the dog, the dog violently bit the Plaintiff in the calf area requiring emergency room treatment and numerous stitches. After investigation, it was determined that the dog had a known propensity to bite and the case was settled in favor of the Plaintiff.
