Mount Jackson developed as a small community at the crossroads of routes serving southern Lawrence County. The junction of what are now PA Route 551 and PA Route 108 made the location a natural center for the surrounding agricultural area.
The community’s history is connected to North Beaver Township and the broader development of Lawrence County. The township was formed in 1802 when South Beaver Township was divided, and Mount Jackson grew as a service center for the surrounding farms.
The Mohawk Area School District, which serves students from several communities in southern Lawrence County, has historical ties to Mount Jackson. The former Mount Jackson High School served the area before consolidation into the Mohawk district in 1958. Today, Mount Jackson maintains its character as a small community serving the residential and agricultural areas of North Beaver Township.
