Lawyers Are Standing By

Were You Injured in One of These Accidents?

  • Car Accidents are common in Wampum due to the heavy traffic on PA Route 18 and PA Route 288. The intersection of these routes at Main Street sees significant daily traffic, and collisions send local residents to the hospital regularly. We handle rear-end crashes, intersection accidents, and distracted driving claims.
  • Truck Accidents occur frequently along the commercial corridors through Wampum. Large trucks serving the CEMEX cement plant and the Gateway Commerce Center storage facility travel PA Route 18 daily. Crashes involving commercial vehicles often result in catastrophic injuries to occupants of passenger cars.
  • Medical Malpractice claims arise when healthcare providers fail to meet the standard of care. Wampum residents typically receive care at UPMC Jameson in New Castle or Heritage Valley Beaver. Errors in diagnosis, treatment, or surgery can have lasting consequences for patients and their families.
  • Workers’ Compensation benefits are available to employees injured on the job. Wampum’s cement plant and limestone quarries have employed local workers for generations. If you were hurt at work, you deserve benefits for your medical care and lost wages.
  • Motorcycle Accidents result in serious injuries along the winding roads of southern Lawrence County. The routes along the Beaver River attract motorcyclists, but heavy truck traffic and limited sight lines create dangers. We fight for full compensation for injured riders.
  • Wrongful Death claims allow families to seek compensation when negligence causes a loved one’s death. Whether the loss resulted from a traffic accident, workplace incident, or medical error, our attorneys help families through this difficult process.

Why Accidents Happen in Wampum

Wampum sits along the Beaver River in southern Lawrence County, approximately 5 miles south of New Castle and 35 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The borough serves as a transportation hub where PA Route 18 and PA Route 288 meet, carrying both local and commercial traffic through the community.

PA Route 18 runs north-south through Wampum, connecting the borough to New Castle and points north. To the south, Route 18 leads to I-376 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike. PA Route 288 begins at Main Street in Wampum and heads east through Chewton toward Ellwood City and Zelienople. This east-west corridor carries commuters and commercial vehicles throughout the day.

The Wampum Bridge, opened in 1929, carries traffic over the Beaver River and the Norfolk Southern rail line. The intersection of PA Route 18 and Main Street sees heavy traffic from local residents and trucks serving the industrial facilities in the area. Norfolk Southern’s Youngstown Line runs through the borough, and rail crossings require attention from drivers.

The Community Park on 11 acres provides recreational space for residents, while the Mines in the Meadow ATV Park on 350 acres draws visitors to the south end of town. The North Country Trail passes directly through Wampum, adding pedestrian activity to local roads.

Medical Care After a Wampum Accident

UPMC Jameson, located at 1211 Wilmington Avenue in New Castle, serves as the closest full-service hospital for Wampum residents. The community hospital is approximately 5 miles north of the borough and provides emergency services, surgical care, and diagnostic imaging.

Heritage Valley Beaver on Dutch Ridge Road in Beaver provides another option approximately 12 miles to the southeast. For severe trauma requiring Level I care, patients may be transported to UPMC Presbyterian or Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, roughly 35 miles away.

Accident injuries often require treatment beyond the initial emergency room visit. Physical therapy, specialist consultations, and ongoing medical care add up over time. Our attorneys account for both current and future medical costs when calculating the full value of your claim.

The Oldest Borough in Lawrence County

Wampum holds the distinction of being the oldest borough in Lawrence County, established in 1796 by the Davidson family. The name honors the area’s Indigenous heritage, changed from the original post office name of “Irish Ripple” around 1868. Seven Davidson brothers acquired adjacent tracts along the Beaver River and established farms that would shape the early community.

The discovery of limestone deposits in 1887 transformed Wampum into an industrial center. The Bessemer Cement Company, now operated by CEMEX, opened in 1876 and remains the oldest continuously operated Portland cement plant in the United States. The limestone quarries that dot the area, some now part of the Gateway Commerce Center storage facility, were even used as filming locations for George A. Romero’s 1985 horror film “Day of the Dead.”

Wampum produced several notable athletes, including professional baseball player Dick Allen and basketball stars Don Hennon and L. Butler Hennon. The Wampum High School basketball team gained international recognition in the 1950s before the school was absorbed into the Mohawk Area School District.
