Percentage of motorcyclists injured or killed in accidents

People in Pennsylvania travel on the various roads every day, but there are many different types of vehicles that people use to drive on the roads. People may drive cars, SUVs, pick-up trucks, vans, tractor-trailers, motorcycles and other types of vehicles. There are many reasons for driving these various vehicles and each type can serve a different purpose, but some are also more dangerous for the driver than others.

For instance motorcycles can be more dangerous due to the fact that they provide very little protection to the drivers. This is demonstrated by the statistics, which show that riders are much more likely to suffer injuries or be killed when they are in motorcycle accidents.

In 2017, there were a total of 128,188 motor vehicle accidents and 1,137 fatalities in those crashes, which equates to less than 1 percent of crashes result in a fatality. However, there were 3,275 motorcycle accidents and 185 fatalities, which means approximately 5 percent of motorcycle accidents result in fatalities. It is even more common for injuries to occur in motorcycle accidents compared to other types of vehicles. Injuries occurred in approximately 93 percent of motorcycle accidents while other types of accidents resulted in injuries approximately 62 percent of the time.

These injuries can be very devastating as well, resulting in significant medical bills and lost income. The fatalities can be even more devastating for the families of the victims as not only can they be costly financially, but the emotional loss can be just as devastating. However, the victims of these accidents may be entitled to compensation if another driver caused the accident.

There are many motorcycle accidents in Pennsylvania each year and the statistics demonstrate that there is a very good chance that the rider will be injured if they are in an accident. They could suffer significant injuries as a result, but they may be entitled to compensation, which can be very valuable as they recover from their injuries. Experienced attorneys understand how devastating motorcycle accidents can be and may be a useful resource.
