A wrongful death that is caused as a result of a car crash is devastating for the family of the victim. In many cases, the victims are young parents or even teenagers; these are people just beginning their lives.

Take, for example, a crash that happened on Jan. 11. During the collision, a 35-year-old man from Ohio allegedly crossed the double yellow line on Carbon Bicco Road just across the state line. Inside the other vehicle, a 34-year-old man from New Castle, Pennsylvania, was in the driver’s seat when his vehicle was hit head-on.

The Pennsylvania State Police responded to the scene of the deadly crash to assess the crash and provide aid. The man who crossed the double-yellow line was injured and taken to Mercy Hospital in Youngstown for treatment.

There’s no reason that has yet been released for this crash, so it’s unknown if the driver was sick, intoxicated or distracted at the time of the crash. It’s important to understand that wrongful death crashes happen for many reasons, including because of those potential factors.

If you are involved in a crash with another vehicle and a loved one is killed, you have rights as a family member of the victim and as a victim yourself. You can seek compensation through an insurance claim and do what you can to resolve the situation with the at-fault driver. While money does not bring back your loved one, it can help with end-of-life care, funeral expenses, medical bills and other financial strain that will result from the loss of your loved one.
