Advocating for Victims of Nursing Home Neglect

It takes a significant amount of trust for a Pennsylvania family to place a loved one in the care of a nursing home. It is devastating when the facility violates this trust by neglecting or abusing the patient. Nursing home neglect is inexcusable, and loved ones who believe this is happening can take immediate action to make it stop and hold the facility and caretakers responsible.

It’s not always immediately apparent that a patient is experiencing nursing home neglect. Those who experience mistreatment in long-term care facilities may be reluctant to speak out about what they experienced because they are not fully cognizant of what happened or they feel ashamed. They may also fear retaliation or punishment of some kind. This is why it is important for families to be aware of the signs that could indicate abuse or neglect.

Nursing home neglect can come in many forms. Some examples of this neglect include negligent supervision, lack of proper care, failure to provide adequate nutrition, failure to provide mediation and more. Families may notice things like mysterious bruising, weight loss, depression and other signs that something is wrong.

There is no excuse for nursing home neglect or the mistreatment of those who live in health care facilities. Pennsylvania families who believe their loved one suffered because of lack of proper care have the right to speak out about their concerns and act on behalf of their loved one. If there is evidence of neglect, it could be grounds to move forward with a civil claim. While compensation cannot reverse what happened, it can allow a family to pick up the pieces and move forward.
