People make mistakes while driving in Pennsylvania every day. Sometimes these mistakes are harmless and nothing happens as a result. However, there are many other times when these mistakes lead to accidents and people can be injured as a result. That is why all drivers in Pennsylvania are required to have car insurance if they are driving on the roads. This insurance is there to ensure that the victims of the accidents do not need to pay for damages that they did not cause.

Insurance can be even more important for trucking companies. Generally, trucks are much larger than all the other vehicles on the road and when they are involved in truck accidents they can cause catastrophic damages. So, there are laws regarding minimum insurance requirements for trucking companies as well. The minimum requirements are also much higher for trucking companies due to the fact that they can cause so much more damage.

The minimum requirements for trucking companies depends on the weight of the vehicle. If the truck is 10,000 pounds or less, the minimum insurance requirement is $300,000 per accident. If the truck is over 10,000 pounds, then the minimum insurance is $750,000 per accident. This does not include coverage for cargo, which is extra. The minimum requirements for cargo, with some exceptions, is $5,000 per accident.

People who are involved in truck accidents in Pennsylvania can be left in even worse positions both physically and financially than those involved in passenger vehicle accidents. Trucks can cause massive amounts of damage and the accidents can involve many vehicles in one accident. Therefore, trucking companies must have high minimum insurance requirements to help ensure that if trucks are in an accident the insurance can adequately compensate the victims.
