Truck accidents happen in Pennsylvania every day. In many cases, they are a result of drivers who are not paying attention, speeding or too tired to be on the roads.

People are often told not to drive next to these large vehicles, because there is a potential for an accident due to the driver being unable to see them. Smaller vehicles can fall into trucks’ large blind spots, and the truck drivers are unable to see them.

So, if you’re traveling on a road near large trucks, do you know what you can do to avoid a collision? The first thing you can do is to drive ahead of or behind the vehicle, making sure that you can see the driver’s mirrors. You may have noticed signs on a truck that read, “If you can’t see my mirrors, I can’t see you.” This refers to the distance you need to be away from the vehicle for the driver to see you easily.

Another thing you can do is to use your horn or lights to alert the driver to your presence or intended actions. For example, would you like to pass the truck driver? Use your lights to signal that you’ll be moving to the vehicle’s side, and use your horn to give a short blast to let them know that you’re there. Simple actions like this can help a driver know you’re nearby and take actions to avoid a crash.

Truck crashes aren’t always going to be avoidable, and there is a chance that you could get hurt. Your attorney will help you start a claim if you’re involved in a collision.
