Is a loved one experiencing neglect in a nursing home?

When a Pennsylvania family makes the decision to place a loved one in a nursing home, it is with the expectation that the family member will receive appropriate care and supervision. It can be devastating to learn that the facility has failed to provide an appropriate level of quality care to its residents. Neglect or abuse in any form in a long-term care facility is unacceptable.

It’s not always easy to know exactly what is happening as victims may be reluctant to speak out aboutĀ what they are experiencing. This is why it is helpful for family members to know what signs to look for and how to move forward if they notice certain red flags. Evidence of a resident’s rapid weight loss could indicate nursing home neglect.

When a nursing home resident develops bedsores, it could indicate that he or she is not getting quality care from the people who are supposed to be providing it. Dirty clothes, lack of personal hygiene and lack of interest in talking could also indicate that the person is experiencing some form of neglect. These facilities are responsible for providing care and closely monitoring the well-being of the people who live there.

If a Pennsylvania family suspects nursing homeĀ neglect, they may have grounds to take legal action against the facility. Abuse or neglect is reprehensible, and it is possible to pursue claims for monetary damages through the civil justice system. A family has every right to seek legal guidance regarding the legal options available.
